School Exclusions: Make Your Voice Heard!
Croydon Council are seeking views from parents, carers, teachers and SEND professionals on school exclusions, fair access, and offrolling. A Task Group has been set up, chaired by Croydon's Autism Champion and Councillor Jerry Fitzpatrick. We know this is an important and emotive subject for many of us. If you would like your voice to be heard, please see the amended press release below for details of how to get involved in the consultation. Feel free to leave comments below this blog, and let us know if you would like us to pass on your comments to the Task Group responsible. We can do this anonymously, just let us know.
And please share this blog post freely.
MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD ABOUT SCHOOL EXCLUSIONS
Pupils’, parents’ and teachers’ views on school exclusions are being sought by a Task and Finish Group (TFG) set up by the council’s Children and Young People Scrutiny Sub-Committee.
The TFG is taking an in-depth look at issues related to school exclusions, the council’s Fair Access Panel, off-rolling, and Alternative Provision, which includes Pupil Referral Units.
The TFG is seeking the views and experiences of Croydon pupils, parents, teachers, education professionals, community groups and anyone else with an interest in the issues related to school exclusions.
Personal views and experiences can be sent in writing to the Chair of the TFG or, if preferred, the group is available to meet in person anyone who wishes to speak to the TFG. The dates available are 5, 6, 7, 13,14, 20 and 21 February. Although appointments on these dates are during the day, evening sessions can be arranged on request.
Councillor Jerry Fitzpatrick, Chair of the Task and Finish Group, said: “We want to hear your voice and we shall listen to it carefully and respectfully. Whether you are a pupil, a parent or a teacher, you will be heard in a fair and kind manner. Your participation will make a difference so please do get involved.”
To share your views and experiences, or to request to attend a meeting on one of the above or an alternative date, please email email@example.com by 28 February.
The Task and Finish Group cannot take up individual cases or pursue complaints. The purpose of the TFG’s work is to review and seek to improve policies and practices in Croydon.
Individuals and groups may give their views and experiences openly or confidentially. No individual or group will be quoted or identified in the Task and Finish Group’s final report without their permission.
The final report will be publicly available.
